William L. "Leonard" Schanz, 79, of Warren, died Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Health Center. He was born March 12, 1933 in Schoharie County, New York, the son of Vernon and Mildred (Proper) Schanz, Sr.

Mr. Schanz served in the U.S. Army and retired from Sharon Steel.

Surviving are two sisters, Elaine Wilson of Fleming, Georgia and Inez Keppler of Berne, N.Y.; a brother, Vernon Schanz, Jr. of East Berne, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his wife, Ruby (Williams) Schanz; and two brothers, Melvin and Willard Schanz.

According to his wishes, cremation is taking place. Services are private.
