William J. Hapgood, 53, formerly of Warren, Ohio, died Saturday, August 13, 2005 in Sonora, California after a long illness. He was born April 13, 1952 in Warren, the son of Emily (Jewell) and Joseph C. Hapgood, Jr.

Mr. Hapgood was a 1970 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, and had attended Youngstown State University and College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. He was an accomplished saxophonist and had been a member of the Warren Harding Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands, as well as with musical groups locally and in California. He was a seventh-generation member of First United Methodist Church, where he had been active in Troop 2, Boy Scouts of America. He was a Certified Arborist and Owner of Will's Tree Service in Sonora. He was a member of the International Society of Arboriculture and the National Arborist Association. He had earned a second-degree Black Belt, of which he was very proud, and had taught Tae Kwon Do. A true non-conformist, his sense of humor and his smile comforted all those around him.

Surviving Mr. Hapgood are his wife, Lili Cadeaux Hapgood of Sonora, Calif.; his mother and step-father, Emily and Harold Husted of Canfield, Ohio; his sons: Tyler J. Hapgood and Miles K. Hapgood, both of Folsom, Calif., and Sampson Cadeaux-Tydings of Sonora, Calif.; three sisters: Susan J. (Norman) Minahan of Livonia, Mich., Mary E. (Gary) Schroeder of Fort Collins, Colo., and Nancy L. (Paul) Husted Wyen of Seattle, Wash.; and three brothers: John H. (Nancy) Hapgood of Warren, Ohio, Robert D. (Donna) Husted of Alvaton, Ky., and Norman J. (Lisa) Husted of Mineral Ridge, Ohio.

His father, Joseph C. Hapgood, Jr., preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Warren First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. Family members will greet friends from 10:00 to 10:45 AM on September 10 at the church.
