William C. Flath, 87, of Warren, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Mahoning Valley Hospital. He was born March 20, 1923 in Cleveland, the son of Leonard and Sarah Jane (Cooper) Flath, and had lived in the Warren area most of his life.
Mr. Flath graduated from Warren G. Harding High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University, and a master's degree from Kent State University. He taught for 27 years in the Warren City Schools, retiring in 1978. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Africa and Italy, and in recent years was honored locally in a Memorial Day parade. A member of First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed the Browns, the Indians, all Warren G. Harding High School sports, especially football, and anything to do with World War II.
Surviving is his wife, Elizabeth Jean (Atkin) Flath, whom he married August 17, 2002. His parents precede him in death.
Services are 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Material contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren, Ohio 44481.
