William Marcus Cox

William Marcus Cox, 95 years old, of Warren, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on July 26, 1929, in Millersburg, OH, the son of the late Armand and Ellen Miller Cox.

After graduating from high school in Millersburg, Bill headed to Ohio Northern University to further his education. At ONU he met the love of his life, Helen Taifalidakis, while they were both studying to become pharmacists. In 1951, he began his service in the U.S. Army, stationed at the army hospital in Osaka, Japan during the Korean War. Following his return, he and Helen married on November 1, 1953, and together they owned and operated Ott’s Drug Store in downtown Warren all while raising a growing family. He continued practicing pharmacy after the sale of Ott's, keeping his license active until the age of 82. After retirement Bill and Helen enjoyed many winters in Florida, playing golf and making new friends.

Bill pursued many interests in his lifetime and will be remembered for his intellect, fun-loving nature and extraordinary storytelling. He shared his love of boating with his family, creating memories fishing and skiing on Mosquito Lake. Bill's gift of photography was evident by always capturing special moments. With an aptitude for languages, Bill loved conversing in Greek and Japanese. He was active in the U.S. Power Squadrons where he taught classes on celestial navigation. Bill enjoyed being a lifetime member of VFW Post 1090 in Warren and formed the VFW Golf League. He sponsored Ott's Drug Store bowling team. Bill was an active member of the Trumbull County Pharmaceutical Association and served as their president. A loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns, Bill saw the very first game they played and had the thrill of being honored in 2014 as Browns' fan of the week. Through his life and work, Bill forever touched the lives and hearts of so many.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Helen Cox; his 4 children, William Cox, Renée (William) Kress, Elizabeth (Colby Capizzi) Elston-Capizzi, and Jennifer Winters; 7 grandchildren, John (Monica Lee) Cox, Jessica (Paul Sydorenko) Kress, Meredith (Matt) Nephew, Andrea Kress, Marisa (Luke) Sheldon, Ashley (Adolfo Mendoza) Elston, and Alexandra (Gerrit) Chambers; and 9 great grandchildren.
