William E. Atkin

William E. Atkin, 93, of Champion, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born September 29, 1916 in Braceville, the son of James and Viola (Drake) Atkin, and lived in Trumbull County all his life.

A graduate of Braceville High School, Mr. Atkin also earned an engineering degree. He worked 46 years as superintendent of Ohio Edison, retiring in 1983. He was a fifty-year member of Old Erie Lodge #3, F. & A.M. and a member of Champion Presbyterian Church, the Champion Rotary Club, and the Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, and tennis.

Surviving are two children: David W. (Lori) Atkin of Canton, and Diane (Donald) Cordner of Canfield; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Kraft of Austintown. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Veramae (Hendricks) Atkin, whom he married July 1, 1939 and who died August 19, 2001; two sisters: Vera Kraft and Marion Davis; and two brothers: James and Samuel Atkin.

Family services are 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Ferris officiating. Friends may call 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Canfield East Cemetery. Material contributions may be made to Champion Presbyterian Church, 4997 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483.
