Violet P. Lewis

Violet P. Lewis, 98, of Warren, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Gillette Nursing Home. She was born November 12, 1909 in Southington, the daughter of John C. and Della E. (Hawkins) Preston, and had lived in Trumbull County her entire life.

Mrs. Lewis attended the Southington Schools and began her working career as a clerk for Muter's Gift & Card Shop in downtown Warren. In her forties, she attended the Warren Beauty School and became a beautician. She also worked thirty-one years at Packard Electric, retiring in 1971.

She was active with Rebekah Lodge; Morning Light Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star (50-year member); Warren Assembly No. 77, Social Order of Beauceant (50-year member); White Fez; and had been MCO of Ali Baba Cauldron. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and was a precinct worker for the Trumbull County Board of Elections for thirty years.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Harlan and Joan Lewis of Warren; two grandsons, William (Dotsy) Lewis of Cortland and Robert Lewis of Mineral Ridge; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Homer H. Lewis, whom she married May 28, 1932 and who died March 16, 1960; a son, William Lewis; a daughter-in-law, Jane Lewis; a granddaughter, Debbie Lewis; and a brother, Harry Preston.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Patricia Christ of Otterbein United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will be conducted 9:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
