Vincent Richard "Dick" Mazer made his transition to his new life on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at his home in Cortland, following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He was born on December 11, 1932, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Rose Mary Jones Mazer and Chester Mazer that preceded him in death.

Dick was raised in the Cleveland/Lakewood area until he entered the Air Force during the Korean War. He used the GI Bill to attend college at Kent State University where he was a proud member of Theta Chi Fraternity and earned a BS in Business Administration. After his graduation from college in 1959, he began working for Hamilton-Kent as a salesman. He continued working in the rubber gasket/concrete pipe industry until his retirement from Sheller Globe, located in Montpelier, Indiana.

He married Sally Bloomfield in 1960 and had three children, Mark, Lori, and Keith. He was an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Cortland. He enjoyed reading and playing golf with close friends and family.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sally, of Cortland; two sons, Mark (and wife Cyndy) of Floyds Knobs, IN and Keith of Port Angeles, WA; and daughter, Lori Chaney of Stafford, VA.; 8 grandchildren - Christa, Melissa, and Kyleigh Mazer; Katlyn, Kimberlyn, and Keegan Chaney; and Amber Hopkins and Raven Hopkins Mazer. Additional survivors include brother Chester (wife Jean) of Chardon, OH and sister Rosemary (husband Robert) Bowers of South Euclid, OH.

Visitation will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 4659 Niles Cortland Rd. N.E., Cortland, Ohio 44410 on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a Mass honoring the life of Dick at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Northern Ohio Chapter, 2500 E. 22nd Street - Suite 102, Cleveland, Ohio 44115, www.alsaohio.org .
