Thomas G. Summers

Thomas Gillmer Summers 82, grandnephew of James Ward Packard and son of Myron Charles and Katherine Gillmer Summers, died December 19, 2003 in Laguna Woods, California.

Mr. Summers was born in Canton, Ohio and grew up in Warren. He attended Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and University School in Cleveland before entering Lehigh University, where he belonged to Sigma Nu fraternity.

World War II interrupted his education, and he was proud of his Army service that took him from Normandy to the Russian border.

After World War II, Mr. Summers married Martha Selby, with whom he was married for 56 years. He returned to Lehigh, where he earned a B.S. in business administration.

While raising a family in Chatham, New Jersey, Mr. Summers was assistant controller of a large insurance company in New York City. He was a member of the Society of Insurance Accountants and the Insurance Accounting and Statistical Association.

Mr. and Mrs. Summers moved to Santa Barbara, California after retiring in 1980, and moved to Laguna Woods in 2000. They enjoyed being closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

Surviving Mr. Summers are a son, Myron; daughters Betsy Solis and Nancy Allen; son-in-law Tom Solis, daughter-in-law Denise Hasek; and grandchildren Kimberly and Jeffrey Allen.

A memorial service for both Tom and Martha Summers will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483. Material contributions may be made to the National Packard Museum.
