Susan R. Sponseller

Susan R. Sponseller, 55, of Champion, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Hospice House in Poland, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 7, 1956 in Greensburg, Pa., the daughter of Robert and Doris (Breegle) Van Arsdale.

A graduate of Hempfield High School in Greensburg, Mrs. Sponseller worked as a housekeeper for Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. She enjoyed garage and rummage sales, flowers, swimming, and going to Cedar Point, Put-in-Bay, and the ocean.

Surviving are her husband, Dennis R. Sponseller, whom she married April 11, 1981; two daughters: Bonnie B. of Howland and Brittany M. Sponseller of Austintown; a sister, Bonnie (Steve) Hover of Warren; a brother, Robert (Judy) Van Arsdale of Mt. Pleasant, Pa.; and two great-nephews with whom she was close: Cole and Cobe Cernuto. Preceding her in death are her parents and a brother, Charles Van Arsdale.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Oaks of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Champion Township Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
