Shirley J. Thomas

Warren, Ohio - Shirley J Thomas, 86, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday, October 1, 2013. She was born on August 15, 1927 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jacob and Flossie Zurcher.

Shirley graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1943 and then from Kent State University. She and her husband spent many hours monitoring Bald Eagles at Mosquito Lake for the State of Ohio. She also enjoyed holidays with the family and phone calls from her "Davey".

Memories of Shirley will be carried on by her husband, Raymond Thomas, whom she married January 29, 1955 and celebrated 57 years of marriage together. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Norma Zurcher of Newton Falls; nephews, William (Sue) Zurcher of Portage, IN, David Zurcher of Waukesha, WI, Jack (Veronica) Zurcher of Warren; nieces, Susan (David) Carlson of Eau Claire, WI, Linda Zurcher, of Newton Falls, plus several great and great-great-nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clayton, Glen and Robert.

According to Shirley's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. "Aunt Shirley is now flying on eagle's wings"
