Shirley Best

August 10, 1931 — September 27, 2015

Shirley Marie Best of Oregon, OH formerly of Niles, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 11:47 p.m., after a 38 year courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease in Little Sisters of the Poor, Oregon, OH. She was 84.

Shirley was born August 10, 1931 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Harry and Nina Lee Hunt.

She was a 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Following high school, she matriculated to Bowling Green University where she earned her Associates Degree.

Earlier in life, Shirley was a realtor for Rogers Realty. She will be remembered most as the bookkeeper and secretary in the family business at Best's Auto Service in Niles.

Mrs. Best was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed her time with the Holiday Dance Club and playing cards with the neighborhood 500 club. All of her life Shirley enjoyed sewing and knitting. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed the outdoors, from camping at Cooks Forest to boating with her family. Shirley enjoyed cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Cleveland Indians.

Her husband, Roderick Best, whom she married October 13, 1951, passed away on July 2, 2013.
She is survived by, a daughter, Diana Lee and her husband Paul Szymanski of Perrysburg, OH; 2 sons, Leslie W. Best and his wife Maggie of Girard, OH and Douglas E. Best and his wife Kathy of Niles, OH; 8 grandchildren, Meghan (Chris) Schmidbauer, Mollylin Best, Christopher Batman, Casey Best, Joshua Szymanski, Jacob Szymanski, Jeremy Szymanski, and Janelle Szymanski.

In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Don Hunt; a sister, Evelyn Kuehn.

The family would like extend a special thank you for the exceptional care their mother received not only from the caregivers at home, but also to the sisters and aides at Little Sisters of the Poor.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 4 to 7 p.m. in the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC 614 Warren Ave. Niles, OH 44446.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the funeral home with Rev. Curtis Miller pastor of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Internment will take place in Niles City Cemetery.
