Sherman L. Thomas, 72, of Bristolville, died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. He was born January 30, 1933 in Prosperity, Pa., the son of Albert and Anna Swihart Thomas, and had lived Trumbull County since 1955.
Sherman worked on the 21-inch mill at Copperweld Steel for 30 years. He was a member of the Mecca Moose and Eagles. He enjoyed antiques and antique cars, his camp and second home in Big Run, Pa., hunting and fishing, and was an avid Steelers fan.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Margaret Phillips Thomas, whom he married May 14, 1951; two children, Joyce (Dan) Francosky of Mecca and Albert (Karen) Thomas of Bristolville; two granddaughters, Jacqlynn and Shauna Thomas, both of Idaho; five sisters: Edith Foote, Olive Fonner, and Linda Thomas, all of Washington, Pa., Martha Popa of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Wahneita Grimes of Waynesburg, Pa.; a brother, Homer Thomas of Washington, Pa.; and his faithful companion, Spooky, his Jack Russell dog.
Preceding him in death are his parents; three brothers: George, Dorman, and Paul; and three sisters: Ruth, Naomi, and Lola.
Services for Sherman will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. William H. Popa of Wadsworth, Ohio officiating. Private interment will be held at Prosperity cemetery in Prosperity, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday and 12:00 to 1:00 PM Wednesday. Material contributions may be made either to the American Lung Association, 25 N. Canfield-Niles, Rd., Austintown, Ohio 44515, or to the donor's favorite charity.
