Scott S. Turner, 94, of W arren, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. He was born September 9, 1914 in Warren, the son of Asa A. and Ella Mae (Sullivan) Turner.
Mr. Turner was a graduate of South High School, Youngstown, attended the U.S. Naval Academy, and earned his A.B. degree in 1938 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. He had worked as operations supervisor for the Social Security Administration. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Warren, Miami University Alumni Tower Club, Raymond Mollyneaux Hughes Society, Civic Music Association, The U.S. Naval Reserve, and the Reserve Officers Association.
During World War II, he served four years of submarine service in the Pacific theater, serving as executive officer of the USS J-34. During the Korean conflict, he served two years in destroyer service as executive officer on the USS Turner. He retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of Commander.
Surviving are four daughters: Carol Emerson of New Concord, Ohio, Nancy Glen (Bob Knop) of Redlands, Calif., Linda (Bill) Fisher of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Barbara (Kevin) Walro of Louisville, Ky.; nine grandchildren: Meri Linn, Jamie (Stacie), Rob, and J.D. Emerson, Amy (Ken) Magruder, Scott (Heather) Klinger, Matthew (Jackie) Fisher, Kristin (Michael) Goza, and Zachary Walro; and six great-grandsons: Braeden and Colt Emerson, and Michael, Jonathan, Brian, and Andrew Magruder. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Lucile Linn (Eatwell) Turner, whom he married December 26, 1942 and who died March 31, 2005; a brother, Dr. Damon A. Turner; and a son-in-law, Dr. James Emerson.
A memorial service will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Yesudas Devadan officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., November 8, in the Van Wye room of the church. Following the service, his urn will be interred at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
