Sarah R. Metzler of Edwardsville, IL formerly of Warren, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 12:15 a.m. in her son's residence. She was 99

Sarah was born on December 23, 1916 in Struthers, OH, the daughter of the late Thomas Roberts, a former mayor of Struthers, and his wife Estella Morgan Roberts. Mrs. Metzler was one of five daughters.

She was a graduate of Struthers High School. Following high school, Sarah went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Ohio State University with a Major in Fine Arts.

Mrs. Metzler was employed in the Warren City Schools where she taught art to elementary and high school students for over 30 years.

She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church of Warren and an active member of the Adult Sunday School for many years.

Her husband, Harold Metzler of North Jackson, OH, whom she married June 26, 1941, passed away on March 12, 2001. After World War II, Harold and Sarah established residence in Warren.

She is survived by a son, Thomas (Nancy) Metzler of Edwardsville, IL; 3 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by her 4 sisters.

A memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 in Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Dan Devadan officiating, interment will directly follow.

The family suggest that tributes take the form of contributions in Sally's name to the First United Methodist Church, 309 Park Ave, Warren, Ohio 44481.
