Sara L. Schaffer

Sara L. Schaffer, 97, formerly of Warren, died 5:15 AM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. She was born Thursday, November 7, 1907, in Chestnut Grove, Pa., the daughter of the late W. Paul and Cora Smith Bloom, and had lived in the area since 1947.

Mrs. Schaffer was a graduate of Clarion (Pa.) State Teachers College and had taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school house in Chestnut Grove. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Warren.

Surviving Mrs. Schaffer are four children: Carolyn (Robert) Alli of Pinehurst, N.C., Ann (Floyd) Culver, of Defiance, Alan Schaffer of San Dimas, Calif., and Patricia (Jan) Poncar of Cortland; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mrs. Schaffer in death are her parents; her husband, Lloyd R. Schaffer, whom she married June 11, 1932 and who died December 16, 1992; four sisters: Alice McQuen, Bessie Ziliox, Mae Bloom, and Rachel Wood; and four brothers: Lawson, Carl, Paul, and Neil Bloom.

Services for Mrs. Schaffer will be 1:30 PM Monday, December 27, 2004 at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481, with Rev. Warren F. Outhwaite of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Monday.
