Sara Marie Linton died peacefully at her daughter's home in Poland, Ohio on April 7, 2006. Sara, affectionately called Sally by many, had made her home in Howland for sixty years.
Sally was born to George and Bird Miller Shrader on September 4, 1912 in Berlin Center, Ohio. A graduate of Berlin Center High, Sally was a star basketball player for the Blue Devils. She graduated as an R.N. from Akron City School of Nursing in 1934. During her career, she worked at Akron City Hospital, Salem City Hospital, and Trumbull Memorial Hospital before retiring from the Niles Clinic in 1978.
Sally had been an active member of the Central Christian Church in Warren for sixty years. She served as Sunday School Teacher, co-founder (with her husband) of the Strawberry Festival in 1947, and a member and officer of the Central Christian Workers Sunday School Class. She also served on the Membership Committee and Nurse Health Committee at the Church. Additionally, she and her husband were charter members of the 50 Plus Seniors Club of Scope.
After her retirement, Sara was a volunteer Pink Lady at Trumbull Memorial for 15 years and was active in the Warren Women's Club. She belonged to several card clubs and the Senior Citizen's Bowling League. She enjoyed her friends, traveling, reading, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her family. She was a good listener and always offered honest insights.
On August 12, 1936, Sally married the love of her life, Charles O. Linton, at her parent's home in Berlin Center. Sally and Chuck were married for forty-five years and is survived by their only child, Sue Linton Oyler and husband Raymond Oyler. She leaves two grandchildren, Gretchen Blair (Douglas MacAdam) of Conneaut, Ohio, and Jim Stein (Renee) of Fort Myers, Florida. Step-grandchildren include Ray and Jennifer Oyler of Monroeville, Pennsylvania and Lee Oyler of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Putting a twinkle in her eye were her many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and her brother Don Shrader and sister Doris Schaeffer.
Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Central Christian Church, 2051 East Market Street, Warren, Ohio 44483, with Rev. Caroline Bloomfield of Central Christian Church and Rev. Rusty Wills of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Poland officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio. Friends may call at McFarland & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, and at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 AM Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church, or to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2985 Center Rd., Poland, Ohio 44514.
