Samuel C. Vasquez of Austintown, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 5:05 a.m. in his residence. He was 67.
Mr. Vasquez was born in Youngstown on June 25, 1948, the son of the late Trinidad and Abigail Cantu Vasquez.
He was a 1967 graduate of The Rayen High School. Following high school, Samuel enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, while proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War, Samuel achieved the rank of Sargent and received the National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Sam retired in 2002 after 30 years of employment on the assembly line at the former Packard Electric.
He was a member of One Spirit Family Christian Church of Boardman. Sam was an ordained minister and was highly involved in youth and senior ministries at Trinity Fellowship Church for many years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and target shooting. Mr. Vasquez was very knowledgeable in alternative and holistic medicine, and was happy to share his knowledge and understanding of alternative medicine with those in need.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Linda Stephenson Vasquez, whom he married March 12, 1983 and shared 33 years of wedded bliss together. He is also survived by 2 daughters, Kara (Roger) Warner of Springfield, OH and Lea (Wayne) Groff of Madison, WI; 2 sons, Kirk Sackela of Mineral Ridge and Tony (Carrie) Skahan of Georgia; a sister, Irene Vasquez of Mexico City; a brother, Ruben (Kathy) Vasquez of Poland, OH; 13 grandchildren, Korine, Lennon, Seth, Cristian, Eva, Reyna, Corrie, Amy, Mercy, Tekoa, Nathan, Isabella, and Silas. Two other grandchildren, Sammy and Cate, whom Samuel was more like a father to than a grandfather made their home with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield with Rev. Don Scott Monaco, pastor of One Spirit Family Christian Church. Following the memorial service, full military honors will be rendered for Mr. Vasquez.
