Samuel J. Benchia, 79, of Bristolville, died at home Monday, January 22, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 8, 1927 in Campbell, the son of Charles V. and Anna (Mihu) Benchia.

Mr. Benchia worked as a crane operator at Copperweld Steel for 36 years, where he also belonged to the union.. He was an avid golfer and had golfed in the Copperweld league for ten years. He also enjoyed the Browns, Indians, crossword puzzles, Rubik's cubes, and most of all, his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Ida M. (Stover) Benchia, whom he married September 27, 1963; his children: Eric (Debbie) Benchia of Warren, Kathleen (Darrell) Moore of Braceville, Charles (Judy) Benchia of Niles, Caroline (Rodger) Nagy of Windham, and Anna (Randy) Adams of West Farmington; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Miller of Warren; and two brothers, William (Alice) Benchia of Warren, and Victor (Linda) Cornelio of Sherman, NY. Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Ruth Chance; and a niece, Nancy Lester.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 25, 2007 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Yesudas Devadan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sager Cemetery in Bristolville. Friends may call 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Thursday at the funeral home.
