Ruth L. Saunders

Ruth L. Saunders, 78, of Warren, died 7:50 AM Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Cortland Healthcare Center in Cortland. She was born Monday, June 6, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late Eugene J. and Anna Lucas Polon, and had lived in Ohio since 1962.

Mrs. Saunders had worked as an inspector for the Union Switch and Signal Co. in Pittsburgh. She was of the Methodist faith and had enjoyed painting, reading, flowers, and people.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Gail A. Saunders-Smith of Farmdale; her son, Jay W. Saunders of Niles; a sister, Jennie Roberts of Verona, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, Robert Starr and Gerald (Kay) Saunders; three nephews: Bobby Starr, Bill Roberts, and Eric Saunders; and four nieces: Cindy and Beth Ann Starr, Judy Roberts, and Dr. Cathy Vanna.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, John E. Saunders, whom she married August 25, 1951 and who died July 4, 1990; a sister, Alma Starr; a son-in-law, Charles D. Smith; and a brother-in-law, Bill Roberts.

Services for Mrs. Saunders will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2005 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Interment at Pineview Memorial Park will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday. Material contributions may be made to the Gustavus Federated Church, 8849 State Route 193, Farmdale, Ohio 44417.
