Ruth S. Johnson

Ruth S. Johnson, 92, of Warren, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. She was born November 26, 1918 in Painesville, the daughter of Charles R. and Alice (Tuttle) Spaulding, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1965.

A 1937 graduate of Painesville Harvey High School, Mrs. Johnson earned degrees from the University of Baltimore, George Washington University, and Case Western Reserve University. She worked for 37 years as a rate clerk for the B & O Railroad, retiring in 1979. An active member of Christ Episcopal Church, she had volunteered in the church office and had taught religious education classes. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and travel.

Surviving are a brother, Lawrence P. (Linda) Spaulding of Salem, Ore.; two nieces: Joan Carol (Judge Martin O.) Parks of Mentor, and Barbara Fruehe of Oakhurst, Calif.; three nephews: Dennis R. (Connie) Spaulding of Concord, Gerald (Martha) Spaulding of Avon, and Robert Spaulding of Stockton, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Jean (John) Gibbons of Berlin Lake; and her friend, John Hammel of Niles. Preceding her in death are her husband, Harley B. Johnson, whom she married October 25, 1958 and who died April 5, 1989; and a brother, Gerald Spaulding.

A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 in the chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, with Fr. Donald Hall officiating. Inurnment in the church's columbarium will follow the service. Friends may call 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday in the church library.
