Russell L. Davis

Russell L. Davis, 69, of Woodstock, Illinois, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, August 8, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 16, 1942 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Thomas and Carolyn (Spain) Davis, and had lived in Illinois for the past twenty-one years.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Davis was a 1960 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University. He had a long and distinguished career for Sears. Roebuck & Company, starting as a management trainee and retiring in 2004 as Director of Government and Legislative Affairs, the senior-most role for monitoring and driving critical legislation at the local, state, and national levels. An active member of the National Retail Association, he enjoyed reading, golf, keeping in touch with family and friends, and was widely known by his friends for his loyalty to and interest in the lives of others.

Surviving are his wife, Donna (Buterbaugh) Davis, whom he married February 3, 1968; two children: Brad and Leigh Ann Davis, both of Woodstock; two sisters: Linda (Brian) McMahon of South Carolina and Melissa (Robert) White of Warren; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. His parents precede him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted 12:00 noon Friday, September 9, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. James F. Baer officiating. Burial of his urn, with full military honors, will follow at Pineview Memorial Park in Warren. Friends may call 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on September 9 at the funeral home.
