Robert L. McBane, 77, of Warren, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004. He was born September 2, 1927 in Follansbee, WV, the son of the late Hugh and Annie Lake McBane.
Mr. McBane was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warren and was very active with the Republican Party early in his career.
Mr. McBane began his employment with General Motors - Packard Electric Division on January 13, 1947 in the Product Engineering Department. He was assigned to set up a photographic lab, and was later promoted to the general supervisor in Public Relations, responsible for visual aids and special projects, involving sales, engineering, and community relations.
Robert worked with the Packard Music Hall board and their architect in an advisory role on the equipment needs for the new Packard Music Hall. During this time, he collected Packard memorabilia and history for display purposes.
After retirement on December 1, 1982, Bob became active in local community activities. He served three years as president of the Trumbull County Historical Society, three years on the board of the Rebecca Williams Community Center, and took an active role on the board of the Packard Museum Association.
Surviving Mr. McBane are his wife, Helen Louise (Stelmah) McBane, whom he married May 19, 1951; six children: Michael (Joann) McBane of Cazenovia, NY, Terrance (Peggy) L. McBane of Warren, Erin (David) Peppel of Cortland, NY, Heather McBane of Warren, Patrick (Leslie) McBane of Youngstown, and Sean (Tina) McBane of Warren; and eleven grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. McBane in death are his parents; a sister, Olive McBane; and three brothers: Elmer, Sidney, and Jack McBane.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, November 19, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave., Warren, Ohio 44481, with Rev. Rick Oaks officiating. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the National Packard Museum, 1899 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483, or to the First United Methodist Church.
