Richard J. Ghere, age 83 of Kettering, Ohio, and formerly of Warren, Ohio, died November 16, 2003 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Warren on March 22, 1920 to the late Harry C. and Radiance (Briggs) Ghere
Richard was employed by the City of Warren, Engineering Department from 1946 to 1982, working his way up to becoming the City Engineer until his retirement in 1982. He was a 1938 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Kent State University where he played basketball.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Air Corps from 1941 to 1943. Richard was a member of the Second Christian Church of Warren, a past board member of the Friends of the Warren Public Library (FOWL), and a member of the Warren Elks Club and Warren Kiwanis Club.
Richard married the late Elizabeth Crum Ghere on June 12, 1943, who preceded him in death on November 11, 1996. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard K. Ghere and Lisa Ellison of Franklin, OH and his grandson, Noah Ghere.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 21, 2003 at Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, OH with Richard's daughter-in-law, Pastor Lisa Ellison officiating.
In lieu of flowers family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the donors favorite charity.
