Richard F. Downs

Richard "Dick" Downs was born June 16, 1924 of parents Hilda Faunce and Herbert G. Downs.

He graduated from Harding High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. Richard married Genevieve Johnson, from Yakima, WA., on August 24, 1946, then attending The Los Angeles Art Center for three years.

While owning the Downs Studio from 1958-1987 he was a photographer an portrait artist. Many of his art paintings are in homes and institutions in Warren.

Richard was an avid snow skier, having visited the many slopes out west, Canada and the east. He enjoyed reading about nature, collecting rocks and minerals, bowling and golfing.

Mr. Downs loved his church, The North-Mar Christian & Missionary Alliance, having served as secretary, elder, building committee, Boys Youth Brigade, choir, soloist and in the Nursing Home Ministry. He was a member of the Trumbull Camp of The Gideon's International since 1952.

Survivors beside his wife include a son Lamont W. (Pat) Downs of Las Vegas, NV., two daughters, Cheryl M. (John) Kostraba of Cortland and Valerie J. Downs of Qinghai, China; three grandchildren, Anton Venetta U.S. Navy, Valerie M. and Henry Venetta of Cortland; two sisters, Lucile Dunphy of Bluffton, IN. and Lela McCrea of Grand Junction, CO. His son, Sheldon G.; parents and a brother, Herbert M. Downs preceded him in death.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Forum Health Hospice, 8747 Squires Lane, Warren, OH 44484 or North-Mar Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 3855 E. Market St., Warren, OH 44484.

Calling hours will be Thursday, August 9, 2007 at North-Mar Christian & Missionary Alliance Church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at noon. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park.
