Raymond J. Marchek, 81, of Warren, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at St. Joseph Health Center. He was born March 2, 1930 in Warren, the son of Leon J. and Augusta Helen (Demzak) Marchek, and had lived in the Warren area all his life.
A January, 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Mr. Marchek served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a fabricator for Republic Steel, and later worked security at Warren General Hospital. A city councilman for twelve years, representing the 7th Ward in Warren, he had been president of the Slovak Club, the Warren Eagles, the Warren Moose Lodge, the Wrestling and Boxing Association, the Democratic Party Club, the Dickey Ave. School PTA, and had been a member of the Polish American Legion, the VFW, and the Disabled American Veterans. He once had a band "The Polka Kings", in which he played drums, and also enjoyed landscaping, watching his grandchildren in sports, and his boxer Murphy.
Surviving are five children: Robert J. Marchek of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Michael R. (Beth) Marchek of Wren, Ohio, Sandra (Mark) Naylor of Las Vegas, Nev., Melissa (Don) Marino of Warren, and David (Debbie) Marchek of Warren; eight grandchildren: Katie McBride, Raymond A., Brandon, and Ashley Marchek, Samantha Naylor, Alexandra and Kristina Marino, and Nathan Marchek; a great-grandson, Cole McBride; and a sister, Helen Gadzalski of Warren. Preceding him in death is his wife, Deloras (McAdoo) Marchek, whom he married October 10, 1953 and who died July 15, 1996.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 420 North St. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483, with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren. Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home.
