Perthenia S. Kingdon

Perthenia S. Kingdon, 93, of Champion, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Community Skilled Health Care Centre in Warren. She was born May 4, 1918 in Sebring, the daughter of William R. and Grace (Funkhouser) Stewart, and had lived in Trumbull County most of her life.

Mrs. Kingdon attended Warren G. Harding High School and was active with Morning Light Chapter #80, Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a fifty-year member and served as Matron in 1991. A member of First Baptist Church of Warren, where she sang in the choir and took part in the handbell choir, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, and flowers. She worked for a time at Packard Electric, and also did professional maintenance for SS Cyril & Methodius Church and at several doctors' offices.

Surviving are two daughters: Vonda (Phil) Kerr of Columbiana, and Ilona (Edward) Rupnik of Warren; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her husband, Elwyn B. Kingdon, whom she married October 29, 1935 and who died March 27, 1985; a daughter, Ardyth Elwell; and a son-in-law, David Elwell.

Services are 12:00 noon Monday, June 13, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Sebring. Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday at the funeral home. Eastern Star services, led by Morning Light Chapter #80, will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
