Paul H. Kimpel, 77, of Howland, died 8:50 PM Friday, May 26, 2006 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 19, 1928 in Clarington, Ohio, the son of Roy S. and Nellie Yockey Kimpel, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1932.
Paul was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and served in the U.S. Army. He earned the bachelor of arts degree from Ohio University, and the bachelor of fine arts in painting and fashion illustration from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Paul and his wife Kadey have been well-known in theater, arts, and historic preservation in the Youngstown-Warren area for decades. Paul was a founding member of the Trumbull Art Guild, a founding member of the Gustavus Historical Society, and a lifetime member of Trumbull New Theatre, whose current theater he helped to build. He was a former member of the Trumbull County Historical Society, the Methodist church, and the Unitarian/Universalist church. For 25 years, he wrote and directed plays for children's summer stock at Kent State-Trumbull campus. For 40 years, he was the set and costume designer for Youngstown Playhouse.
He will be sadly missed by his family: his wife, Kadey Aiken Kimpel, whom he married December 23, 1965; two daughters: Samantha K. Kimpel (Marc Pisan) of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Tascin N. (William) Brooks of Austintown; a granddaughter, Julia Ann Brooks; a sister, Dorothy J. Farrell of Cortland; and a brother, Robert L. (Callie) Kimpel of St. George, Utah. His parents precede him in death.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 3, 2006 at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., Youngstown, Ohio 44504. Friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to the Paul & Kadey Kimpel Arts Scholarship, P.O. Box 884, Cortland, Ohio 44410, or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
