Hialeah, FL - Nick Merlino, 86, of Hialeah, FL, formerly of Warren and North Ft. Myers, FL passed away Monday, May 8, 2006 in Miami Veterans Hospital. He was born July 4, 1919 in Mapleton, PA, Son of the late Dominic and Bertha (Hydecker) Merlino.
He was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Warren Elks Club, VFW, and International Telecommunications Pioneer Assoc. He enjoyed boating, antique cars, gardening and CB radios. He retired in 1976 as a supervisor for United Telephone Co. and was a veteran of WW II in the Pacific Theater with the US Army.
He will be missed by his daughter, Marie L. Hinton Masi of Hialeah, FL, grandson, Plineth D. Hinton of Hialeah, FL, great-grandson, Plineth J. Hinton of Warren, OH, brother, John M Merlino, CT, sister, Flora Martinelli, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona (Manion) Merlino who he married in 1944 and died in 1981, brothers William Merlino, Ben Pollicino, siters Vera Pollicino Hnizdil, Catherine Pollicino Hundertmark and longtime companion Katherine Lipps.
Friends will be received from 1-3 & 7-9 PM, Sunday, May 14 at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, Warren, OH. with Knights of Columbus services Sunday at 6:45 PM. Mass will be celebrated, Monday, May 15, 2006 at 1:30 PM with Father Bernard Schmalzried officiating.
