Howland Twp., OH - Nellis "Red" E. Thompson, 93, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Northside Medical Center, Youngstown, OH. Red was born on July 9, 1919 in Warren, OH the son of the late Roy and Edith (Ballinger) Thompson.
He retired from Control Transformer, Div of Ajax Manufacturing, as Chief Engineer and formerly worked at Standard Transformer. He was a 1937 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, a member of Howland Community Church.
Red served his country in the US Army during World War II, and he was a member of Carroll F Clapp Masonic Lodge, and Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite. He enjoyed antique automobiles, bowling, and the Cleveland Indians, and also was part owner with his son Rick of the Boardman A&W family restaurant
Memories of Red will be carried on by his; son, Richard (Vicki) Thompson of Boardman, OH; granddaughters, Stacey L. ( Cameron) Pease of Middletown, OH; and Suzy (Rob) Maddock of Carrollton, VA; and great-grandchildren, Makaly and Coryn Pease and Jacob and Tyler Maddock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Thompson) Thompson whom he married October 1, 1940 and who passed away on January 26, 2005, and one brother.
Family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2013 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home from 6:00 pm till 7:45 pm when the Carroll F. Clapp Lodge #655 will conduct the Masonic Service. Services will be held at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:30 am with the Rev. Ash Welch officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
