Muriel H. Smock, 99, of Howland, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Howland Shepherd of the Valley. She was born September 16, 1912 in Springdale, PA, the daughter of Homer and Emma (Hazlett) Hoffman. She grew up on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA. After High School graduation, she graduated from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio and continued her education at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio.
Muriel taught school for a total of 19 years, she taught in the Irondale, Ohio, Maplewood and Lakeview Schools districts as well as the Mary Och Learning Center of Warren. She also was an active member in CCL, Cortland Literary Club, Mecca Travel Club and delivered Mobiles Meals for several years. Muriel also donated time to various Senior Citizens Activities.
Survivors include 5 daughters, Sharon (Walter), Lorelei (Fred), Stephanie, Lucille, and Kristina (Peter); 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death is her husband, Arthur H. Smock, whom she married September 25, 1937 and who died December 5, 1998
Honoring Muriel's wishes there will be no services; Cremation is taking place, followed by burial in Mumford Cemetery, Cochranton, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request material contributions to be made to your favorite charity in her name.
