Morris "Moe" Guy

September 13, 1938 — February 27, 2013

Morris "Moe" E. Guy, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2013 at his residence. He was born on September 13, 1938 in Girard to the late Morris and Anna Belle (Davis) Guy, Sr.

Morris was a graduate of Leavittsburg High School, where he held the pole vaulting record for the State of Ohio at ages 16-17. He served in the United States Army for 3 years as a Morse Code Operator, having been deployed to Korea for 17 months of that time. He returned home and became an iron worker at Copperweld Steel. In 1960, he went to work at General Motors Lordstown and later became acting Supervisor of Maintenance, Clock #27, for 23 years until his medical retirement due to a stroke in 1988.

He was a member of the Old Erie Lodge #3 F&AM. He was accomplished at fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, archery and incredibly gifted wood crafter with his "big" hands. There was nothing "Moe" couldn't do. He touched the lives of many throughout his life. He had an incredibly big, helping heart and was loved by all who were blessed to know him.

Cherished memories are left behind with his loving wife of 28 years, Phyllis Ann "Rooster" (Horsley) Guy of Southington; son, Dr. Jeffery Guy of TN; daughter, Leslie Cooper of R.I.; sisters, Rachel Gibson, Barbara (Rick) Jamison, both of Girard and Karlene Chance of Brookfield; 5 nephews; 2 nieces; his caregiver, Debbie Holbrook of Niles and his 2 beloved dogs, Annie and Pokey. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert.

According to Moe's wishes, there will be no services and cremation has taken place. His ashes will be spread in South Carolina at his favorite fishing hole in Lake Jocassee by his best friend, Bruce Burrell.
