Milford P. Shongo

Milford P. "Chief" Shongo, 72, of Warren, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Horizon Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born January 20, 1936 in Salamanca, N.Y., the son of Percy and Lucille (Billie) Shongo, and had lived in Trumbull County since 1987.

Mr. Shongo was a graduate of Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas and served with the U.S. Army in the 81st Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He was retired as a press operator for General Motors. An enrolled Seneca Indian of the Deer clan, he enjoyed working on cars, especially antique cars.

Surviving are six daughters: Seneca and Shawnasee Shongo, both of Meadville, Pa., Melissa Shongo of Florida, Bobbi Shongo of Salamanca, N.Y., Lucinda Shongo of Florida, and McKenzie Shongo, and her fiance Brian Boggs, of McDonald; a son, Robert Shongo of Florida; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; two stepsons, Corey Norton of Warren and Eric Norton of Korea; a sister, Mae Shongo of Frewsburg, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Janice Shongo of Warren. His parents precede him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home.
