Mildred E. Nighswander

Mildred E. Nighswander, 86, of Warren, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born January 14, 1924 in Warren, the daughter of William and Anna (Winsor) Gott, and had lived in Trumbull and Mahoning counties all her life.

Mrs. Nighswander worked at Ohio Lamp Works before attending Taylor University in Upland, Indiana and the Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated. An obstetric nurse for 35 years, she was a member of the Ohio Nurses Association and the Youngstown Hospital Alumni.

She also belonged to the Women's Auxiliary of the Howland American Legion Post 700, the Howland United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the church's Fifty-plus Club. She enjoyed reading, music, swimming, traveling, and spending winters going south.

Surviving are her husband, Brice T. Nighswander, whom she married October 24, 1953; two children, James W. (Deborah) Nighswander of Warren and Mary E. Armeni of Liberty; three grandchildren: Joseph and Lauren Armeni and Libby Heidenreich-Gamichia; two step-grandchildren, Miles and Gabriel Gamichia; a sister, Virginia Churchill of Cortland; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; a sister, Mary Lansdowne; and five brothers: Henry, Jacob, Robert, Edward, and Charles Gott.

Services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Howland United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ron Spore officiating. Interment will be conducted privately at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. The Women's Auxiliary of American Legion Post 700 will conduct a service at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
