Michael A. Stassinis, 85, of Warren, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles. He was born August 28, 1923 in Canton, the son of John and Maria (Saras) Karaganus, and had lived in the Warren area for 67 years.
Mr. Stassinis had worked as traffic manager for Ohio Fast Freight and was a life member of the Youngstown Traffic Club. A sports enthusiast, he had been inducted into the coaches' corner of the Warren Sports Hall of Fame. He had managed in the Warren Recreational Baseball league for over twenty years, and was past-president of the Warren Little Panthers and the Warren Umpires Association. He enjoyed writing and loved to talk politics.
Surviving are his wife, Florence (Burns) Stassinis, whom he married May 11, 1949; seven children: Robert M. (Donna) Stassinis of Cortland, Janet (Duane) Ulery of Niles, Harvey T. (Deborah) Stassinis of Warren, Sherry (Frank) Wolner of Middletown, Ohio, Loraine Griffing of Warren, Dorothy (Dave) Pierce of Mansfield, and Teri (Larry) McGinnis of Cortland; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Evangeline Johnson; and three brothers: George Stassinis, and Samuel and Ernie Stassin.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Pineview Memorial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
