Melvin "Mel" Aho

Melvin "Mel" Aho, born June 9, 1935, passed away from a sudden heart attack, January 30, 2017 at the age of 81. Mel was the son of the late Armas (Ben) and Ida Aho. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in January 1954 and began his career in Corporate Transportation and later in shipping and receiving at Wean United Corp. He worked for 39 1/2 years until the company closed. He then went to work for Wal-Mart as an assembler where he worked for 17 years retiring in 2010.

He married Dolly Hoyt September 27, 1958 and spent 58 years together raising three children.

Mel enjoyed sports and spent 17 years coaching and managing Gadget Ball and Little League. He made many wood projects over the years and was a jack of all trades. He also loved building challenging puzzles. Mel also was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and was the Property Manager for the church. Before coming to covenant, Mel also served as Deacon and Elder at the Niles Presbyterian Church for many years. Mel also served six (6) years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Survivors include his wife Dolly of Warren, son, Jeff (Debbie Merkle) Aho, North Ridgeville, Oh. and daughter Lynn (Jim) Golen of Warren, as well as granddaughter April (Chris) Beal of Columbus and brother Arthur (Marilyn) Aho, Charlottesville, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents Armas and Ida Aho and his son Todd Aho.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church with final committal services at Pineview Cemetery, Warren, Oh. Rev. David Black will officiate.
