Mary Ormerod Winkle, 72, of Alpharetta, Ga., died 5:05 PM Friday, April 15, 2005 at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, Ga. She was born Wednesday, May 11, 1932 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of the late Henry R. and Isabel Herlinger Ormerod.
Mrs.Winkle was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren and Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio. She and her husband Charles moved to the Buffalo, N.Y. area in 1956, and lived there until moving to Georgia in 2004.
Mrs. Winkle had taught 3rd grade in the Amherst and Williamsville, N.Y. schools, and had also taught in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a member of Amherst Community Church in Snyder, N.Y. She had been active in the PTA, the Girl Scouts and Brownies, the Junior League of Buffalo, and had done volunteer work for many years at Millard Fillmore Hosptial in Buffalo. She enjoyed crafts and had been a great letter-writer.
Surviving Mrs. Winkle are her husband Charles F. Winkle, whom she married December 3, 1955; two children: Peri Winkle (Mark) Soldati of Westfield, N.J., and C. Christian (Andi) Winkle of Alpharetta, Ga.; and six grandchildren: Amanda and Ryan Soldati, and Stephanie, Michael, Connor, and Alec Winkle.
Preceding her in death are her parents and a twin sister, Jane Evans.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10006.
