Mary Bartol White

Mary Bartol White, 86, of Warren, died 5:35 PM Friday, April 22, 2005 at Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The strength of her spirit and her endearing gentle way never wavered through her long illness. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 4, 1918 of the late Martin and Julia Obraz Bartol. Graduated from Ursuline High School in 1935 and attended Youngstown University. Married Andrew Leo White on May 30, 1947 who died on November 11, 1967. Worked as Secretary in the Law Department of Youngstown for 10½ years. Moved to Warren in June 1952. Was Exponent Correspondent from Warren in the early 1970s. Worked in the former St. Mary's Middle School Library, retired in 1996 after 24 years of service. Was a member of St. Mary's Church since moving to Warren, an active member of its Altar & Rosary Society, a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Council 62, and a charter member of the Happy Mothers of the Ohio Child Conservation League where she served as an officer in many areas since 1953.

The wonderful people she met, and the work she did through these organizations gave her so much joy and fulfillment through the years.

She will be sadly missed by her 6 children: sons Drew of Cincinnati, David of Mayville, New York, and Robert of Akron, and daughters Andrea George of Columbus, Lisa Walker of Warren, and Julie Szwejkowski of Lyndhurst. She also leaves 5 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 3 step granddaughters and a sister, Betty Cerny of Girard. Her brother, Stephen, is deceased.

Services for Mary will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 232 Seneca N.E., Warren, Ohio 44481, with Fr. Bernard Schmalzried officiating. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland. Friends may call 3:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, 271 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44481. Memorial tributes may be given either to the former St. Mary Middle School library, now Notre Dame Queen of Peace, 261 Elm Rd. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483; or to Scope, Inc., Holiday Food Baskets/Emergency Assistance Fund, 220 W. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44481.
