Mary P. Swetonic

WARREN - Mary P. Swetonic, 84, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2013 at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren. She was born October 1, 1928 in Jane Lew, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Clinton Edward and Elizabeth Holbert (Straley) Burkett.

Mrs. Swetonic attended Harding High School until starting work at Packard Electric in Warren. Mary started out on the first conveyor set up at Packard Electric as an hourly worker for 11 years then she worked as a clerk for 32 years. She retired in 1993 with a total of 43 years of service in Plant 11 on North River Road.

Mary was a regular at the Champion Rollarena and enjoyed skating several years before giving over 20 years as a volunteer at the front door. She always had a smile for everyone who entered and a special good-bye as they exited the rink.

Memories of Mary will be carried on by her son, John J. Swetonic, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia; granddaughter, Mary Lynn Swetonic of North Richland Hills, Texas; a sister, Betty Rieser of Cape Coral, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her extended family the Brainard's, the Carroll's and all those who were lucky enough to have known her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Swetonic, Sr., whom she married 1/2/1948; a sister, Helen Haylett and a sister, Katherine McGhee.

Family will receive friends on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McFarland and Son Funeral Home in Warren. A funeral service will follow immediately at 7:00 pm with Fr. Bernard Schmalzried of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date.
