Mary Bernice Simmons

Mary Bernice "Berni" Simmons, 84, of Cortland, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. She was born July 31, 1923 in Warren, the daughter of Bert and DeSylvia (Offutt) Ward, and had lived in Trumbull County her entire life.

Mrs. Simmons was a 1941 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and worked in data processing for Warren Engineering. Formerly a member of First Baptist Church in Warren, she enjoyed travel, shopping, fishing, reading, and most of all, her family.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 66 years, Lester C. Simmons, whom she married April 20, 1942; a son, Tod (Susan) Simmons of Cortland; two grandsons, Don Allen and Jeremy Tod (Shannon) Simmons; a great-grandson, Logan Simmons; two sisters, Wilda (Donald) Wells of Champion, and Joanne (Eldon) Clute of Avon Park, Fla.; and a brother, John (Elaine) Ward of Cortland. Preceding her in death are her parents; a sister, Dorothy Haller; and two brothers, Norman and Richard Ward.

Private services have been held. Cremation is taking place. Material contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, Ohio 44406, in the name of Bernice Simmons.
