MARY BETH CARR McFARLAND, 95 (formally of Warren) died Thursday, May 31st, 2018 at her home at Copeland Oaks, Sebring, Ohio.

She was born in Salem, Ohio on April 26, 1923, the daughter of Robert Herman and Jeanette (Yaggi) Carr and grew up in Alliance, Ohio.

Mary Beth was a 1941 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1944 Mount Union College graduate earning degrees in Music and English. She had been a lifelong member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

After marrying David F. McFarland on April 30, 1944 at Alliance Union Avenue Methodist Church, she moved to Warren living there until they moved to Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in 1999. Mary Beth was an affiliate member of the Union Avenue Methodist Church while her church home remained the First United Methodist Church of Warren, Ohio.

While in Warren, Mary Beth was a teacher for the Warren City Schools and was also very active in many clubs and organizations. As a member of the Warren Branch of the American Association of University Women, she served as president and an honored member of their Ohio State Hall of Fame.  She was also a member of the Fortnightly Study Club, the Warren Garden Club, the Warren Public Library Board, Warren Civic Music, CP Chapter of P.E.O., Mary Chesney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Trumbull County Historical Society and The Upton Association.

Mary Beth was an advocate for her community. She was instrumental in keeping the area green where the current Woman’s Park resides in downtown Warren. She was one of the organizers of the Warren Children’s Music Concerts that continues to this day at Packard Music Hall and was a member of the First United Methodist Church,

Surviving are her husband, David F. McFarland, daughter:  Martha (Bill) Dooley, Hanover, Massachusetts; two sons:  Thomas C. (Holly) McFarland, Gahanna, Ohio;  & James D. McFarland and Paula both of Warren, Ohio. Four grandsons: William Dooley, Jonathan (Betsy) Dooley, Brian (Beth) McFarland  and Christopher (Sharon) McFarland, and two granddaughters Amy (Ryan) Brigner and Meghan (Gary) Boyk and  six great grandchildren: James, Clara, and Samuel Dooley, Jack McFarland, Zayden and Cameron Brigner, and one soon to make an appearance.  Preceding her in death was her brother Herman Y. Carr (2008) and his wife Hilda (1986).

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 15th at 2:00 PM in the Bennett Chapel at Copeland Oaks. Sebring OH Reception will follow in the Williamsburg Room. Private family burial services will be at the Mount Union Cemetery in Alliance.
