Mary H. "Chris" Maurice

Mary H. "Chris" Maurice, 85, of Warren, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at home. She was born July 31, 1924 in Kings Mountain, N.C., the daughter of Jim and Pauline (Miller) Huffman, and had lived in Ohio most of her life.

A graduate of Wittenberg University, Mrs. Maurice taught her entire career at East Junior High School in Warren. Active in the community, she had served on the board of directors for the YWCA and Someplace Safe; was a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, the Trumbull County Retired Teachers, the Ohio Retired Teachers, the Monday Afternoon Club, the Fortnightly Book Study Club, the Trumbull County Historical Society, the Warren Republican Women's Association, the Warren Civic Music Association, the Upton Association, the National Packard Museum Association, AAUW, the Trumbull Art Guild, and the Trumbull County Educational Service Center; had served as a Trumbull Mobile Meals volunteer; and was a blood donor through the Red Cross.

Together, Chris and her husband Bill had traveled in all 50 states as well as 70 different countries. They had hosted 49 high school exchange students and teachers from 26 countries and five continents.

Surviving are a daughter, Jean P. Maurice of Warren; three sons: Martin W. Maurice of Warren, John A. Maurice of Canton, and David J. (Grace Shaiu) Maurice of Howland; five grandchildren: Marcus of Taipei, Taiwan, Joshua of Portland, Ore., Andrea of Valladolid, Spain, and Isaac and Georgia Maurice of Howland; and two great-grandchildren, Elias and Nyx Maurice. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, William B. Maurice, whom she married August 16, 1946 and who died June 27, 2007; a sister, Virginia Stroup; and a brother, Jerry Huffman.

Chris's life will be celebrated with a service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Friends may call 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in her name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2860 E. Market St., Warren, Ohio 44483.
