Mary Catharine Horne

Sarasota, FL - Mary Catharine Horne, 96, formerly of Poland, OH, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at The Pines of Sarasota. She was born on July 10, 1918 in Oil City, PA, the daughter of the late Louis Abell and Hazel Elaine (neAC. Petrie) Pappenhagen.

She graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance, OH, in June 1940 and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority (Gamma chapter), the Pi Gamma Mu honorary social science fraternity and the Phi Sigma honorary biological fraternity. After graduation, she was a member of the teaching staff at the State Street Junior High School in Alliance, OH. She was active in many volunteer organizations, including the Rotary Club Women's Auxiliary, various hospital volunteer organizations, and her sorority alumni association.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Joseph Kimball Horne of Sarasota whom she married August 26, 1942 in Alliance, OH, daughters: Martha E. Hoag of Columbiana, OH, Kathryn H. (James) Scheip, Springfield, VA, Susan K. Mosier of Orrville, OH, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. James M. Pappenhagen of Gambier, OH.
