Mary Jane Custin, 87, of Warren, known to many as Mary Jane Taylor, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. She was born April 12, 1923 in Warren, the daughter of John Albert and Lottie (Kilgeman) Carnahan, and had lived in the Warren area all her life.
A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and The Ohio State University, Mary Jane worked for many years as the director of public relations at Packard Electric. A lifetime member of Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, she served on the Warren City Board of Education from 1957-1969, including board president in 1965, the Board of Trustees for the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation, first woman chairperson of the United Way Campaign, Chairperson and trustee for the National Packard Museum, and founder of the I. B "Jim" Taylor, Jr. Service Award. She also belonged to the Trumbull Country Club, and served on various committees for the YWCA, the Trumbull Art Guild, the Upton House, and Trumbull New Theater.
Surviving are two children, Jane L. (Charles) Fuller of Albuquerque, N.M. and Scott A. (Sophia Kondoleon) Taylor of Lake Oswego, Ore.; four grandchildren: Dr. Christian (Sky) Fuller, Dr. Anna (Dr. Stephen) Tedeschi, Adam (Jenny) Taylor-Kondoleon, and Sarah Taylor-Kondoleon; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack (Gail) Carnahan of Warren, OH. Preceding her in death are her parents; her first husband, I.B. "Jim" Taylor, Jr., who died in 1981; her second husband, Herbert R. Lilley, who died in 1998; and her third husband, Kenneth G. Custin, who died in 2006.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Monday , June 14, 2010 at the Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio, with The Rev. Don Cooper officiating. Interment will precede the service on Monday at Crown Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at The McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
