Martha S. "Marty" Johnson formerly of Perkinswood Blvd. NE, Warren, age 90 passed away Saturday February 4, 2006, after a brief illness at the Masonic Village in Swickley, Pa. She was born August 5, 1915 in Sharon PA, the daughter of the late Leroy E.and Jessie (Hamer) Shaner.
Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of the Rayen School, Youngstown in 1933 and Pennsylvania State College in 1937, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, social sorority. As a student at Pennsylvania State College, she played in the College Orchestra and Women Symphony. She was a member of the Louise Homer Club, Freshman Customs Committee, Pan-Hellenic Council, along with Junior and Senior Prom Committees. She was co-chairman of May Day and a member of Phi Sigma Iota (romance language honorary.
Marty married Harold A. "Hal" Johnson, June 1943 who preceded her in death December 24, 1996. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren and of its bowling league; she delivered Mobile Meals for many years and was a member of the Wives Auxiliary of the Youngstown Chapter of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. She was also a member of the Trumbull Country Club
She is survived by daughter Mrs. Robert P. (Barbara) Shuty of Pittsburgh, PA, son Rikard (Nancy)Johnson of Hingham, MA and four grandchildren, Adam Shuty of New York City, NY., Lauren Shuty of Pittsburgh, PA. Erik and Karl Johnson of Higham, MA. Also survived by a brother Frederick E. Shaner of Greenwood SC. Preceded in death by sister Mary Louise King and brother Richard Shaner.
Friends may call Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 5pm till 7 pm at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, Warren where friends may call one hour prior to services. The Rev. Bert McGlawn will officiate with concluding interment services at Oakwood Cemetery.
