Marilyn R. Kimes

Marilyn R. Kimes, 85, of Warren, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Health Center. She was born July 24, 1923 in Charlestown, Ohio, the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Mitchell) Ransaw, and had lived in the Warren area since 1948, coming from Ravenna.

Mrs. Kimes was a graduate of Charlestown High School and attended Kent State University and Boheckers Business College. She had worked as a supervisor of teletype operators for the Tribune Chronicle. After retiring, she worked for Trumbull County Welfare as a caseworker. A member of Warren Baptist Temple, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, needlepoint, knitting, watching the Indians and Braves on television, and most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children: Barbara (Frank) Petak of Howland, Claudia Kimes of Warren, and Bruce (Chris) Kimes of Champion; eight grandchildren: Frank (Melanie) Petak, Melanie Petak, Maribeth Petrilli, Brad (Shannon) Petak, Sheri (David) Forrester, Michael (Leslie) McCleery, Tom (Laura) McCleery, and Krystle Kimes; and seven great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jacob, and Cameron Petak, Kelsey and Emily Forrester, and Spencer and Josh McCleery. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, John A. Kimes, whom she married September 1, 1946 and who died December 30, 1974; her stepmother, Bessie Ransaw, who raised her; two half-brothers, Edward and Harold Jones; and a stepbrother, George McCannon.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. James Dittmar of Warren Baptist Temple officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. Material contributions may be made to Warren Baptist Temple, 2093 Ewalt N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483.
