NILES - Marie R. Montevideo, 100, of 2565 Niles Vienna Road died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles.

She was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Calabria, Italy, the daughter of Philip and Caterina Scali.

Marie worked as a seamstress for most of her life, was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society and a Mount Carmel Church festival volunteer, and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Her husband, Angelo Montevideo, whom she married in September 1921, died Jan. 2, 1980.

Marie, who was the greatest mother and grandmother, will be deeply missed by three sons, Sam Montevideo of Niles, Philip 'Monty' Montevideo and his wife, Vickey, of Niles and Joseph Montevideo and his wife, Mary, of Niles; a daughter, Mary Jane Mosca and her husband, Edward, of Niles; a sister, Theresa Cavalicri of Australia; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Grace Montevideo.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons funeral home in Niles, where the Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry will conduct prayers at 4:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, with the Rev. Larry Frient officiating, preceded by a 9 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
