Margaret L. Baxter, 97, of Conneaut Lake, Pa. and formerly of Warren, Ohio, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center in Meadville, Pa. She was born January 14, 1912 in Monongahela, Pa., the daughter of Dr. Charles Francis and Henrietta (McKennan) Linn, and had lived in Conneaut Lake since 2006, coming from South Carolina.
Mrs. Baxter earned a bachelor's degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and a master's degree from Smith College. She had worked as a librarian in Warren, at Allegheny College in Meadville, at Conneaut Lake High School, and later retired as the head librarian at the North Branch library in Youngstown, Ohio. She enjoyed reading, volunteer work, and her cats.
Surviving are her daughter, Anne (James) McKearn of Aurora, Ill.; her son, Robert B. Baxter, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Pamela (Mike) Malik and Nathan McKearn; and three great-grandchildren, Channing, William, and Taylor. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Dr. Robert C. Baxter, Jr., whom she married June 28, 1941 and who died February 2, 1990; and two sisters, Rebecca Robinson and Anne McClay.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2009 at Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, 145 S. Fifth St., Conneaut Lake, Pa. 16316, with Rev. Bill Mills officiating.
