Lyle Williams

Lyle Williams, 66, of Lordstown, died Friday, November 7, 2008 in the emergency room of Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born August 23, 1942 in Philippi, W. Va., the son of Dale and Frankie (Ice) Williams.

A graduate of Bloomfield High School and the Moler Barber College in Cleveland, Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He began his career in public service with the Bloomfield-Mespo Board of Education. He served as Trumbull County Commissioner from 1972-1978, as U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1978-1983, and later with the Reagan and Bush administrations in Washington until 1990. At present, he was executive director of NASPAC.

A founding member of the Optimist Club, Mr. Williams enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, traveling, ice cream, and the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed time with his friends in the Valley and in Washington, and most of all, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and all his family.

Surviving are his wife, Nancie (Peterson) Williams, whom he married October 10, 1964; four children: Vikki Greene of Mineral Ridge, Diane (Brian) Gordon of Lordstown, Debra (David) Dudgeon of Valencia, Pa., and Jason (Jaime) Williams of Cortland; eight grandchildren: Mark Greene, Zachary, Matthew, and Andrew Gordon, Cooper and Emily Dudgeon, Christopher Muir, and Alexandra Williams; a sister, Virginia (Perry) Turner of North Bloomfield; a sister-in-law, Carol Williams (Chuck) Vernon of Orwell; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and a brother, Richard Williams.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with Minister Terry Siverd of the Cortland Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
