WARREN - Louis L. Polena, 96, died July 22, 2005 at Forum Health - Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Fondly known as "Lou" by most, he was the son of the late Mathew and Sophia Rihn Polena.
Born in Sharpsburg, Pa. on April 4, 1909, Lou moved to Warren in 1919 and graduated from Warren High School in 1925 at age 16.
In sports, Lou was probably best known for his high school athletics and expertise as a basketball referee, as well as an outstanding golfer at Trumbull Country Club.
Lou was active in community affairs. He owned and operated Neal's Shoe Store for many years. He served as president of the Warren Merchants Association, the Buckeye Club, the Warren Boosters Club, and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Surviving Mr. Polena are his brother, Jack Polena of Mentor, and his sister, Matilda King of Warren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his beloved wife of 66 years, Jane Polena; his daughter, Katherine Polena; three sisters: Helen Powell, Leona Polena, and Ann Marchand; and a brother, Clarence Polena.
Private services will be held. Material contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483.
