CORTLAND- Lois L. Weir, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Gillette Nursing Home with her loving family at her side. Lois was born on March 10, 1925 in Warren, the daughter of the late C.S. (Sam) and Goldie (Hines) Bettiker.

She was a 1943 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Following her graduation, she worked at Second National Bank. On August 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) F. Weir. Lois provided a loving home for her husband and daughters.

Lois dedicated her adult life to volunteerism with many organizations including: Band Boosters for Champion and LaBrae High Schools, leadership positions with Brownies, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Living Lord Lutheran Church's Aid to Appalachia Project. Lois also enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Living Lord. While an active member of Second Christian Church, she assisted with the bazaars and monthly lunches sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank. Lois was also a long-time quilter with the Second Christian Church Quilters. They donated most of the revenue from their quilts to the Second Christian Church Building Fund, and were able to make the final payment on the church's mortgage. Lois also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Morning Light Chapter #80 for many years. Lois enjoyed quilting baby quilts at home, listening to music, reading, and watching TV. She was an avid and loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Cherished memories of Lois will be carried on by daughters, Nancy (Bill) Countryman of Cortland, and Karen (Tim) Werking of Loveland, OH; grandchildren, Adam and Erin Werking of Loveland, OH; sister, Doris Bernardi of the Philippines; and her "special pet", Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry, who died on January 17, 1994 after 49 years of marriage; and her brothers, Robert and Charles Bettiker.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Bolindale Christian Church, 2749 Fairview Ave. in Howland. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Ray Blasko officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sameh Youssef, the staff at the Shepherd of the Valley Rehabilitation Floor, Dr. Sharon George, and the staff at the Gillette Nursing Home for their care and compassion during Lois' illness.
